TAFE and lolita

Sun Mar 22, 2009, 6:31 PM
Perhaps I should try for a monthly Journal update!

My Tafe course is going really well. I can't believe we only have 3 weeks left of Term 1. I have a pattern drafting exam next week, so *fingers crossed* I've learnt enough to pass it! Also, after talking with the Course Coordinator, I'm going to be doing the course over 2 years instead of 3. It will involve a lot more work, and I'll be doing more production work, but I'm really excited about the prospect. It means it's a year earlier I get to go back home to my family and friends!

Of course on the down side, it does mean that I might have to put aside some of my own personal costuming in order to get everything done. But I'm ok with this. I think I have enough costumes to have something to wear to conventions, though I should still have time to make a few new ones. I just don't think I'll have time for big projects (like Giselle, sadly). So I'll probably try to work on smaller ones (like superheros!), and definitely more vintage stuff! But we'll see how it goes, as I'll be taking on the new subjects next term.

Also, I finished my second lolita outfit! Well technically I just made the skirt and net petti, as I already had the frilled petti and the jacket. But still, it's an achievement! It's a cute cupcake skirt, with white frills and lace, and I love it! I want to add some bows and such though, which I'll probably do for the next time I wear it. The best thing about it is that it's so versatile. I can wear it with pink or brown or yellow or white. Very mix n match! I shall hopefully have photos of both of my loli outfits to post very soon!

And that's about all from me at the moment!

2009 Costumes

Fri Feb 27, 2009, 7:58 AM
I figured it would be best to make this a separate journal.

I wasn't very productive last year, so this year I'm hoping to make up for it! Though with my study commitments, I'll see how I go!

So my Plans for 2009:

Definites:
- Classic Leia upgrades (new belt, white boots, new hair)
- Rose Tyler remake (I have the delustered satin, and am keeping an eye out for the jacket)
- Princess Aurora pink version (In Progress)
- Princess Leia Ewok Village Gown (have the fabric)
- Ceremonial Leia (have the fabric)
- Original Concept Jedi (have some fabric, need to nail down a concept)
- ARC Trooper (In Progress)
- Sally Jupiter/ Silk Spectre I movie (Currently in Progress)
- BloodRayne (either/both classic outfit and ballgown)
- Zatanna Zatara (thanks to Rena I have the jacket!)
- Rita Skeeter (HP movie)
- Giselle Wedding Dress (but not sure if I'll get it done in time)
- Lolita Cheshire Cat

Possibles:
- Animated Leia
- Snowbunny Padme
- Poison Ivy
- Terry Dodson's Wonder Circe
- Terry Dodson's Wonder Troy/ starry Troy/Classic Troy
- Disney's Snow White
- Cassie Sandsmark/Wonder Girl
- Black Canary
- Dodson's Agent Diana Prince

There's a few other possibles on my list, and this also doesn't include the vintage, historical or lolita outfits I want to make! So far I'm making pretty good progress, so we'll see how everything goes!

Long time, no post!

Fri Feb 27, 2009, 7:50 AM
So much has happened since I last posted, so I'll try to summarise...

Firstly I've moved from Sydney to Adelaide! I hated Sydney (except for my friends and my job), and couldn't wait to leave. It's nice for some, but just not my kind of city.

So I'm now in Adelaide living with fellow costumer Kelly. I'm studying a Diploma of Costume for Performance at TAFE and absolutely loving it! Even pattern drafting!

My beloved Matt has joined the military. He's currently at basic training, and finishes in about a month. Unfortunately his 'graduation' is the exact same weekend as Brisbane Supanova, so I'll not be attending this year. We'll be celebrating our 2 year anniversary that weekend, so it's pretty important that we spend the weekend together. Also, with Matt in the military and me here in Adelaide studying, it means that we'll be living apart for the next 3 years. Kinda sucks, but we've both got dreams to follow and passions to pursue. We'll be seeing each other as often as possible though!

I've not had regular internet access for the last 6 months, so I'm still trying to catch up with everything. Just managed to get through 760 deviations and 200 odd messages!! I love DA's new thumbnail deviation thingy. It means I can see what all my watched people's are uploading and just look at the ones that I want to see closely. There's some absolutely amazing things being uploaded, it's hard to look at everything!

I have also finally posted up some photos of the costumes I made last year. Sadly there's not a lot, as last year was a TERRIBLE year for me. But I'm reasonably happy with what I did get done. Very happy to finally have Wonder Woman done after working in it for over a year. Also got my Giselle Andalasia dress done (though will definitely be redoing that in the future) and also upgraded my Bustle dress. I did get a beautiful 50's evening dress done, but I've got to see if I can get a few more photos of it before I post.

I think that's about everything major that's happened. Hooray for 2009 being a brilliant year!

I haz full time job! Woo!!

Sun Jun 8, 2008, 4:38 PM
Yes, I finally scored myself a full time job! :D I'm so happy!! I started last Tuesday, and worked until Sat, so a full week!

I'm working at a place called Tessuti Fabric, which sells designer ends and specialises in natural fabrics (mmm silk!). I absolutely love working there, I'm surrounded by beautiful fabrics and wonderful talented people; it's so inspiring and motivating!

At the moment I'm working at the Chatswood store, but I might be moving in a month or so to on in the city. It's a lot of travel, but I'm just happy to finally have a wonderful, full time job! Hooray for monies! :D

Also, after Sydnova, Matt and I are hoping to move out! Finally! Can't wait to have a place of my own, and my very own sewing room! Hooray! :D

Will keep everyone updated! Though unfortunately full time job = less time for sewing :( But more money!! :P

Sydnova is coming up in a couple weeks (OMG! So SOON!), I'll hopefully get a few photos to upload afterwards of my animated Giselle costume!

Take care everyone!

grrr argh

Wed Apr 30, 2008, 4:52 PM
So Dev Art deleted the photos of my Wonder Woman costume that I uploaded WITHOUT TELLING ME!! Hmmm thanks for that.

Yes I know, my fault, I didn't even think when I put in the reference image. I apologise!! Silly me! But I wish they'd given me warning, as I would have immediately replaced it with just my photos. *sigh* Sucks because now I've lost the comments and favs on it :( Bummer!

Anywho I'm wearing it again on Saturday for International Free Comic Book Day, so I'll see if I can get someone to take some photos of me up against a blank background. Then I'll have to submit photos again! Blargh!

Ok so lesson learnt. It jsut would have been nice to have been given the chance to change it myself, rather than having it flat out deleted.
