grrr argh

Wed Apr 30, 2008, 4:52 PM
So Dev Art deleted the photos of my Wonder Woman costume that I uploaded WITHOUT TELLING ME!! Hmmm thanks for that.

Yes I know, my fault, I didn't even think when I put in the reference image. I apologise!! Silly me! But I wish they'd given me warning, as I would have immediately replaced it with just my photos. *sigh* Sucks because now I've lost the comments and favs on it :( Bummer!

Anywho I'm wearing it again on Saturday for International Free Comic Book Day, so I'll see if I can get someone to take some photos of me up against a blank background. Then I'll have to submit photos again! Blargh!

Ok so lesson learnt. It jsut would have been nice to have been given the chance to change it myself, rather than having it flat out deleted.

It's a shame when this sort of thing happens to artists would change it without trouble, but if deviant art sent a message to everyone who had an infringing deviation on their account telling them to change it, then the staff member would have to go back and check every infringing deviation to see if that happened, effectively doubling their work load.

Argh, that sucks :( They sometimes can't delete an obviously stolen deviation for a few months and they do something like that to you :(

I feel your pain. dA are pricks when it comes to fore-notice. In fact they don't even have such a thing! *sigh* I want my own website...

Tick: Death. The eternal blink. The capricious dance of Now Ya Stop Movin' Forever. Well contrary to popular belief, death isn't just for dead people. It can happen to anyone.

I feel your pain, they did exactly the same thing with my Euphemia costume. I had used the pic from my cosplaylab account, cus they usually require a reference pic. I went through and changed all my cosplays before anymore got deleted.

If you think about it cosplay technically is copyright infringement.... :p

I don't think cosplay is copyright infringement. The act of creating a costume or an artwork based on something else (like fan art) still brings your own creative matters to the process. however, making a profit out of it would be copyright infringement.

So, making a costume yourself based on another design is alright, but posting the exact image of someone else and claiming it as your without their written permission is not, as far as I can understand it.

The rule on DA about not posting reference pics is a little bit silly, however at the end of the day you are distributing someone else's work without their written permission.
